Popmatters premiered the new video today for 'First Mistakes' by The Dead Ships and we couldnt agree more with their assessment! Order CITYCIDE limited edition golden colored vinyl, limited edition pins by Craola, CDs, T's and more HERE.

The Dead Ships had an opportunity to sit in with multi-platinum producer/guitarist Chris Thorn of Blind Melon and Awolnation to make an alternate version of "First Mistakes" heard in the video. About the video, The Dead Ships' Devlin McClusky says, "Because most of the songs were written to help process grief so many have an undercurrent of sadness. First mistakes feels more hopeful but still comes from and always reminds me of such a sad period." He adds,  "When [director] Kelly Reed came to us with the concept of taped up smiles, it brought to the fore some of the darker parts of the emotional spectrum that may be overlooked by the first listen to such a sentimental feeling like "it was good to be alive".  I love those studies that come out every now again that show the physical formation of a smile on your face actually stimulates parts of your brain and causes a chain reaction that puts you in a better mood. No one wants to force a smile, but you can always assert some level of control over yourself and change how you feel.”

GRINGO STAR Two New Singles, New USA Tour Dates!

"Plenty of bands draw liberally from power pop and garage rock, but few are discriminating enough to know exactly which parts to take from each and which to leave on the cutting room floor. Their aesthetic is pure garage, the kind of thing that can’t be faked but is born after years of touring in sweaty basements and rock clubs. It’s the melodies, however, that really set these guys apart from your standard-issue rock revivalists." - Consequence of Sound

Gringo Star has also announced an extensive summer and fall tour. Royal Canoe announce NEW album, On tour with Plants and Animals

On September 16, Royal Canoe will release Something Got Lost Between Here and the Orbit on Nevado Music. We couldn't be more excited! After two years of writing and recording between tours, Something Got Lost Between Here and the Orbit surfaced with a unique and intensified voice. It was co-produced and mixed by Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective, Deerhunter), who concentrated their sound-crafting attention on two fundamental elements: drums and vocals. Royal Canoe has always had an intensively rhythmic heart and that is more the case than ever.

royal canoe album cover

In addition to a renewed sonic focus, Something Got Lost brings an emotional clarity. But it’s a particular kind of clarity: one you experience when what’s most clear is that you’re really unsure about what’s happening with your life or, unsure about what happened to the life you once took for granted, while you were off experiencing stuff, being busy, accomplishing things. Life, and especially the life of musicians, tends to be shaped by an ebb and flow of leaving and returning, cycling between an extroverted, transient mode of being and one of introversion and staying put. Within the broader cycles, even our most important relationships can shift, morph and drift, no matter how much we try to hold them steady.
